What are the entry requirements?
A primary honours degree in Social Care, or equivalent degree in a cognate discipline, with a minimum award of Second-Class Honours Grade 2.2
OR
An appropriate professional qualification in a cognate discipline AND at least 2 years relevant professional experience/responsibility
OR
A primary honours degree AND at least 3 years relevant professional responsibility and experience
An interview may form part of the selection process.
The number of enrolments to this part-time programme is restricted to 25 students.
Students must be in employment or have previously worked in a social care setting. Students should ideally have the support of an agency to fulfil the academic and practical requirements of the course.
NB: Successful completion of this programme of study will not confer entitlement to register as a Social Care Worker.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Applicants who do not have English as their first language must ensure they satisfy English Language requirements. For entry to undergraduate courses, a minimum score of 5.5 in an IELTS exam is required. For postgraduate courses, a minimum of 6.0 is required. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their English proficiency meets these requirements.

Delivery – Part-time – Online
The programme will be delivered part-time online over 2 academic years 1 day per week (Fridays from 9am to 5pm, inclusive of breaks) over 4 semesters. Class contact hours will normally be approximately 7 hours per week (online), but this will vary in some semesters. The division of ‘live’ and ‘recorded’ online content varies depending on the module. Some classes are delivered ‘live’ online, while others are recorded and can be accessed in your own time. There is an additional 2 hours per module for recorded materials, readings and self-directed study.

Friday Sept 16th, 2022 – full classes start from 9am to 5pm
What will the time commitment be?
Each 5 credits will normally equate to approximately 100 Total Learning Hours. Total Learning Hours includes the time you spend in class (lectures, tutorials, practical elements) and the time you spend completing work outside of college. The balance between these two varies by discipline, and by level of study. You should bear in mind that the workload will increase at particular times e.g. when assignments are due.
As the course is offered as a blended programme, attendance at online discussion group class is required. The classes are supported by online material but should not be treated as a substitute. Online lectures and discussion groups will be recorded and available to watch back. Although there will be no physical requirement to be on-campus, occasionally there will be meet up sessions for those who would like support and would benefit from meeting lecturers / other students, depending on circumstances and demand these sessions can also be arranged online.
Assessment
The vast majority of the course is assessed through continual assessment for all elements of each module. Some modules will have a scheduled final exam which will take place online.

The overall fee for this two year programme is €8,000. The fee for Year 1 is €4,000.

FAQ
What days will I need to attend classes?
The online classes are run on a Friday from 9am – 5pm. Some classes are delivered ‘live’ online, while others are recorded and can be accessed in your own time.
How will I access course materials / readings and lectures?
Lectures and readings will be provided on ‘Moodle’ – TUS’s online learning system.
In addition to classes, is there a final project?
Yes, all students must complete a Master’s Dissertation on a topic of their choosing which relates to Social Care Management. There is time reserved in the schedule for completing the final dissertation in the final year of the Masters. Every student will be assigned a project supervisor drawn from the teaching staff on the course.
Will we get to meet other students in person?
Depending on public health advice we would hope to hold an introduction, mid-point and final session for each semester on-campus for those who can attend. You will not be penalised if you cannot attend the ‘in-person’ sessions.
