Preventable accidents, lost time and errors cost businesses both time and money not to mention the personal pain and suffering that many accidents at work bring to those affected.  Businesses with a Strategic Occupational Health and Safety Plan show lower injury rates while they enjoy higher productivity and employee morale.  Effective training and awareness is probably the most cost effective safety measure available to any company. Most workers and managers will be aware of and take action in the obvious areas, mostly in a reactive capacity. However, training sharpens the mind and increases the opportunity for a proactive systematic approach to managing workplace safety and health.

Leaving Certificate Grade O6 at ordinary level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate. Two of these subjects must be Mathematics and a language (English or Irish)

Students who successfully complete the requirements of all modules and assessments will be awarded the NISO Introduction to Occupational Safety and Health Certificate

Progression from the Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is on to the level 7 Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health and Safety Management, which is a two-year programme. Entry criteria to the BSc is based on an interview covering individuals relevant work experience (typically in the Environmental Health and Safety field in excess of 5 years) and Recognition of Prior Learning, a curriculum vitae and completion of the NISO programme. Following successful completion, students are eligible to apply for the Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental, Health and Safety Management.  And, again on successful completion and an average of 50% across all modules (GPA) and students are eligible to apply and progress to the Level 9 Master of Science in Environmental Health and Safety Management.
