The Certificate in Aviation is Level 6 Special Purpose Award and is an exciting opportunity to explore the world of flight and aviation. It introduces learners to some fundamental aspects of aviation and is delivered by industry professionals and instructors. Students may be given the opportunity to visit a live aircraft maintenance facility and experience a simulated flying lesson in a full scale B737 – 800 NG Flight Simulator. This is dependent on social distancing requirements at the time the course takes place.
This course is ideal for those interested in having a foundation knowledge of flight and some of the engineering that makes it possible. Ideal for those considering an aviation career, and also those currently engaged in the industry in non-technical roles, particularly in the aircraft leasing sector.
What are the entry requirements?
Applicants must satisfy a minimum entry requirement of Grade D3 or higher at Ordinary Level in five Leaving Certificate Subjects, or equivalent. Two of these subjects must include Mathematics and a Language (Irish or English).
ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Applicants who do not have English as their first language must ensure they satisfy English Language requirements. For entry to undergraduate courses, a minimum score of 5.5 in an IELTS exam is required. For postgraduate courses, a minimum of 6.0 is required. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their English proficiency meets these requirements.

10 weeks, 4 hours per week.
Tuesday evenings from 6.00pm to 10.00pm.
What will the time commitment be?
Each 5 credits will normally equate to approximately 100 Total Learning Hours. Total Learning Hours includes the time you spend in class (lectures, tutorials, practical elements) and the time you spend completing work outside of college. The balance between these two varies by discipline, and by level of study.
You should bear in mind that the workload will increase at particular times e.g. when assignments are due.
Assessment
100% Continuous Assessment. The student will be required to produce 1 piece of written work as assigned per topic following a period of self study and using the study material provided.
