The purpose and aim of this new course is to offer automotive industry personnel, the opportunity to acquire knowledge of new vehicle technology and to enhance fault diagnostic skills.
What are the entry requirements?
Candidates who hold a Senior Trade Certificate and/or National Craft Certificate and/or Advanced Certificate Craft with appropriate endorsements or examination attainments in an Automotive area will be considered for entry.
Holders of a National/Higher Certificate (Level 6) in Engineering or Technology may be considered for admission this programme. Candidates applying as mature applicants may be required to attend an interview and may be requested to take an aptitude test to prove their suitability for a place on this programme.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Applicants who do not have English as their first language must ensure they satisfy English Language requirements. For entry to undergraduate courses, a minimum score of 5.5 in an IELTS exam is required. For postgraduate courses, a minimum of 6.0 is required. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their English proficiency meets these requirements.

Delivery
The course is delivered over 15 weeks, one evening per week.
Provisional start date: February 2023
Provisional End Date: TBC
Tueday evenings: 3 Hours online – 7pm to 10pm
There will be 4 days practical (2×2 days) over the duration of the course. These dates will be advised at the start of the course.
Classroom Lectures: The module will be delivered using Course notes, classroom with whiteboard, LCD projector, computer with internet connection and speakers. Class discussion and group work will be encouraged.
Workshop Practical Sessions: Workshop practical sessions will be used to allow students to learn through ‘hands on’ experience. Workshops will be based around group work / Individual work and a Portfolio Assignment. Demonstrations and workshop sessions using workshop equipment, Vehicles and Vehicle training rigs will be used to prove the concepts of study.
What will the time commitment be?
Each 5 credits will normally equate to approximately 100 Total Learning Hours. Total Learning Hours includes the time you spend in class (lectures, tutorials, practical elements) and the time you spend completing work outside of college. The balance between these two varies by discipline, and by level of study. You should bear in mind that the workload will increase at particular times e.g. when assignments are due.
Assessment
This module will be assessed through 100% continuous assessment. Students will complete seven written assignments / case study/ report/ short questions/ and one garage practical portfolio.
